The Goodman Theatre’s 2016 production of 2666 was filmed and is available to stream at home for free.
With live performance off the table for a while, artists and producers are turning to streaming as a way to bring theater home. Here in Chicago, Theater Wit’s Teenage Dick experiment began tonight; 16th Street Theater begins streaming Methtacular! for ticket buyers tomorrow night, with writer-performer Steven Strafford holding virtual talkbacks after some “performances,” while several other theaters have said they’re looking into digitally sharing canceled productions.
For those of you who may be working on producing a piece for streaming: What hurdles are you hitting? How do you preserve the live feeling?
For theater fans stuck at home: Have you watched a recorded stage performance before? What works and what doesn’t? Are you willing to buy “tickets” to stream a prerecorded play at home? Let’s discuss.
*to the tune of Selena’s “Dreaming of You,” obviously
Let's also not forget about audio dramas that heavily involve Chicago theater talent—such as Unwell, currently in its second season. https://www.unwellpodcast.com/
